Q&A

Is watching Streaming videos illegal?

In Canada, copyright laws exempt temporary reproductions or copyrighted works. Since most streaming video does not actually involve downloading a copy of the work (it merely creates a temporary copy that cannot be permanently copied), it is not illegal to view streaming videos in Canada. Furthermore, only the online streaming site you’re connected to knows the internet address of the viewer. That means that even if they wanted to, copyright holders simply can’t know who’s watching these videos.

In America, the laws are much more complex and so Android TV Boxes Canada cannot offer advice as to the legality of streaming shows. Android Boxes themselves offer lots of legitimate uses such as Netflix, Hulu, etc. However if you chose to use streaming with Kodi add-ons like Genesis, you do so at your own risk.

What channels can I get?

Android Boxes don’t really work like cable where you select a channel and watch whatever is on.

Instead, you search or browse for whatever movie or TV show you’d like to watch. You can find virtually any show or movie you want including shows from networks like HBO, AMC, Showtime, Discovery, TLC, etc.

Do I need one Android Box for every TV?

You can move your Android TV Box between TVs if you want to do so. However, you can’t access the Android Box from a TV that isn’t directly hooked into it like a PVR. For the best experience, one box per TV works best.

How do I connect my Android Box to the internet?

You can connect your Android TV Box to the internet using either a wired or a wireless connection. To use a wired connection, simply plug your ethernet cable into the box, if using a wireless connection, set it up in the Settings area of your box.

What’s the Difference Between the Boxes You Sell?

All of the boxes, essentially, do the same thing: give you access to FREE Tv and Movies. You are encouraged to spend what your budget allows. If you’re the type of person who needs the best, go with one of the higher end models. If you’re someone who wants a great deal, the MXQ or MX3 may be best for you. Or if you’re a “middle of the road” type of person, the M8S or Wintel may be best for you. The higher end models will last longer, start up faster, browse through menus quicker, etc. There are other minor difference such as some boxes having Dual Band WiFi or Bluetooth, but these things aren’t necessary for most people’s uses.

Can I watch Movies currently in Theaters?

You can watch movies in Theater but the quality varies a lot. There are two types of video quality for these movies: CAM and SCREENER movies. A CAM movie is literally where someone went into the movie theater and recorded the movie. These are usually very poor quality movies with poor video quality, typically poor quality audio and even things like seeing movie goers walking in front of the screen. Some CAMS have the audio dubbed over with a high quality version which can help a lot in how watchable the movie is. There are also some CAMS that have hard coded subtitles (the subtitles are actually part of the video) in them, usually of a different language. Some people don’t mind watching CAMS, but some prefer to wait for a SCREENER. A SCREENER is a copy of movies sent in for award consideration. Usually the quality is comparable to a DVD (maybe slightly lower) and they are very watchable. SCREENERS aren’t always out while movies are still in Theaters, but are usually out quite a bit before the movie is released on video.

How do I connect my Android Box to the internet?

You can connect your Android TV Box to the internet using either a wired or a wireless connection. To use a wired connection, simply plug your ethernet cable into the box, if using a wireless connection, set it up in the Settings area of your box.

How come you don’t you sell cheaper Android TV Boxes?

Many people sell cheaper Android TV boxes. Many of these boxes are “no name” and simply say “Android” on them.  When you ask these retailers what brand the box is they will usually says “It’s Android brand”. This is the equivalent to someone saying they have a “Windows brand” computer. Windows and Android are Operating Systems. A computer brand would be something like Dell, Asus, Acer or HP and and Android TV Box brand would be things like MX, M8, and Minix. We don’t sell cheaper boxes simply because the hardware is inferior and of cheaper quality and more likely to cause problem.s Specs aren’t everything, even cheap brands offer Quad Core processors and 2 GB of RAM, but a name brand MXQ or MXIII with only 1GB of RAM is still better.

Can I cancel my cable TV after getting an Android TV box?

That choice is up to you. Many people do cancel their cable after getting an Android TV Box. The only reason you might not cancel is for Live Sports and Live News. You can watch a lot of Live Sports on your Android TV Box, but we won’t lie to you and tell you that’s it’s the best. The quality is not always great. Many Live TV stations that are free such as Fox and NBC have major sporting events but if you’re truly a sports fanatic, you may want to consider keeping cable. For local news, there are a few options via the CanTV Live option, but you’re not likely to get your local news station. You can watch clips from their websites using your Android TV Box. If all you want is local news you might consider purchasing an HD Antenna (around $40) to get local stations in HD such as CTV, CBC, Global, etc. This will supplement your Android TV Box nicely.

Which Android TV Box is right for me?

There are several models of boxes sold by Extreme Android TV. All will do what you need to them to do: stream TV shows and Movies for free! However, for some, there is more to consider.

If price is most important to you, the MXQ or MX3 are both great options. There is only a small difference in performance between the MXIII and the MXQ. The MXQ does not support 4K UltraHD, however streaming 4K videos is not possible for 99% of people anyway.

If performance is important, but you don’t want to break the bank, the M8 model has more RAM which means some performance enhancements. The M8 also has dual band wireless so if you have a dual band wireless router, you can take advantage of that. The M8 also has Bluetooth allowing you to connect Bluetooth devices to it.

What kind of warranty is there on these Android Boxes??

The Android Boxes sold by Extreme Android TV  carry a 120 day warranty from the time it arrives to you. For a hardware defect, you are responsible for the return shipping (usually less than $15) and Extreme Android TV will pay the shipping for the replacement unit. You can also get a refund but must send the box back first.

Boxes can be reprogrammed for up to 1 year if needed, for free, but you’re responsible for the shipping both ways in this case. Remember you can restore your Android Box yourself as long (as you haven’t done a factory reset on the box).
